Prof. Schimek earned his master and doctoral degrees from two Austrian universities (Vienna and Innsbruck) and from the University of Bath (UK), an internationally leading science and technology institution. Currently he is affiliated with the Medical University of Graz (Austria).
Former affiliations are the University of Vienna, the University of Graz, the Danube University Krems (all in Austria), and the Masaryk University in Brno (CZ). He held visiting research positions at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics in Berlin (Germany) and at the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne (AUS) , among many others in Europe, USA, Canada, and Australia.
Prof. Schimek is a Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society, a member of the American Statistical Association, a life-time elected member of the International Statistical Institute,  a former Vice President of the International Association for Statistical Computing, a Honorary Professor of the Danube University Krems, and, in 2018, was honoured as Distinguished Speaker at the newly formed Symposium on Data Science and Statistics of the American Statistical Association.

He is a long-term co-editor of and reviewer for various high-impact journals in statistics, the biosciences, and bioinformatics. Last but not least, Prof. Schimek is a software developer in R.
